GOTD – Crash ‘n the Boys’ Street Challenge

Crash ‘n The Boys’ Street Challenge – Action (NES)
Technos, Inc

For those who played River City Ransom or Super Dodge Ball, the graphics – and perhaps the engine – may look somewhat familiar to you. A similarly-done title, CNTBSC is one of the few sports games I have thoroughly enjoyed.

The “Normal” game is played as a series of five events, with a total of five “schools” (one is unplayable and not really a school) competing. You choose one of them and lead them to glory. At the end of each event, medals are awarded according to placing on that event. These medals can be spent at the stores to buy event-specific or character-aiding items, such as a quick charge for the Hammer Golf or an extra life for the Roof Pole Vaulting.

The events are all “extreme”, though thankfuly they are not marketed as such. A race where you can hit each other, a canal swimming brawling event, hammer throw golfing, rooftop pole vaulting, and tae kwon do. You can even hurt yourself in the Hammer Golf (by charging up and not letting go). HP carries through to later events, so if you use the best character from your school for everything he will need to heal eventually.

This is another game that is good single player, but especially good with a friend (…or an enemy?). If you liked RCR and Super Dodge Ball, here’s another good Technos game.
