Japan Photo Set 1 – Kanazawa
Quick overview and introduction to the KIT/Japan photos.
In the summer of 2005, I was lucky enough to study abroad for 6 weeks at Kanazawa Institute of Technology, which was a great experience. After the 6 weeks were over, I traveled to Kobe, Kyoto, and Tokyo. Most of the pictures here are of Kanazawa and the surrounding area, which seems to be considered sort of a country town (pop. around 500,000), much like my own hometown. Right around the north center of Japan, there’s a small peninsula. Kanazawa is a ways South of that.
This photo set contains pictures of Kanazawa and of Nishikawa Heights, where we stayed for the program.
A picture of downtown Nagoya. This was taken from a rail station, there are some neat buildings and billboards.
Above is shown a picture of the main entrance to the Kanazawa JR station. To indicate how large it is, notice people underneath.
A picture of a castle we saw in downtown Kanazawa. Not sure which one, but I may find out later.
An entrance to the castle area. That gate is huge.
This is a “park” we found in the middle of downtown Kanazawa. I think it may be a small Shinto shrine.
I would just like to say I think this guy looks really cool, especially since he’s the mascot for a “Hanko” or personal seal shop.
This is a fountain in front of the JR station in Kanazawa. It dynamically displays the time and cycles with this message, (”Isn’t Kanazawa nice?” and “Welcome” in both English and Japanese, and the time.
This is a neat statue we found. That’s a miniature map of Kanazawa (the golden circle near the center, below the hill, is where we were).
This is the entrance to a large Shinto shrine in Kanazawa near the JR station.I think it’s pretty neat because it’s a small area of nature in the middle of several modern buildings.
This is a view from the balcony in my room at KIT. Across that canal is the main KIT campus.
A view in the other direction.
This is the view down the hall of the international dorm at KIT (Nishikawa Heights). I hear that when it’s rainy the carpet is never dry. Rainy season starts in a few days.
Morinaga: As clean as safety. It is delicious!
Had to get a picture of this one. It’s probably the worst (or best) example of not-quite-right English that I’ve seen so far.
